Hand-Painted
High — $25–$500+Original artwork painted directly on the envelope by an artist.
Most sought-after cachets. Artists like ArtCraft, Dorothy Knapp, and others command premiums. Each is unique.
Printed (Lithograph)
Low to Medium — $2–$25Mass-produced design printed on envelopes, often in color.
Common for modern FDCs. Companies like ArtCraft, Colorano, and Fleetwood produced quality printed cachets.
Add-On (Rubber Stamp)
Low — $1–$10Design applied using a rubber stamp, sometimes hand-colored.
Considered less desirable but early examples can have value. Some collectors specialize in certain add-on makers.
Photographic
Medium — $5–$50Real photograph affixed to the cover related to the stamp subject.
Popular in the 1930s-1950s. Condition of the photograph greatly affects value.
Embossed
Low to Medium — $2–$20Raised design pressed into the envelope paper.
