Day 1-2
Fresh Tattoo
Keep the covering on for 2-4 hours as directed. The tattoo is an open wound. Expect some bleeding and weeping.
Do's
- ✓Keep covered as directed by artist
- ✓Wash gently with unscented soap 2-3x daily
- ✓Apply a very thin layer of ointment (Aquaphor or similar)
- ✓Pat dry with clean paper towels
Don'ts
- ✗Do not pick at any scabs
- ✗Do not submerge in water (no baths, pools, oceans)
- ✗Do not use rough towels or cloths
- ✗Do not re-bandage unless directed
Full Timeline Overview
Keep the covering on for 2-4 hours as directed. The tattoo is an open wound. Expect some bleeding and weeping.
Redness begins to fade. Slight swelling may persist. The tattoo will start to feel dry and tight.
The top layer of skin peels and flakes. This is normal. Switch from ointment to unscented lotion.
The surface appears healed. Colors may look slightly dull. Deep layers continue healing beneath.
Tattoo is fully settled. Colors are true. Deep tissue healing is complete. Assess if touch-ups are needed.
