Plastic
Plastics recyclability depends heavily on the resin identification code (1–7) and your local facility. Always check local rules.
Preparation steps
- Rinse out food and liquids
- Remove and discard plastic caps/lids unless your program accepts them
- Leave labels on, but remove plastic film
- Do not bag recyclables in plastic bags — keep them loose
Common items
⚠️ Important notes
- Bags, wraps and film plastics clog sorting machines — take to store drop-off only.
- Black plastic often cannot be detected by optical sorters.
Plastic Resin Codes (1–7)
Look for the number inside the ♻️ triangle on the bottom of the item.
