Thread Consumption Calculator
Estimate how much thread you need for your sewing project based on seam length, stitch type, and fabric layers.
How to Use
- Select your project type — this adjusts for typical waste and extra seams.
- Enter the total seam length in centimeters (measure all seams you will sew).
- Enter how many separate seams (e.g., 4 side seams = 4).
- Choose your stitch type — overlock uses more thread than straight stitch.
- Select the number of fabric layers being sewn through.
- Click Calculate to see total thread needed, spool count, and bobbin count.
Thread multipliers: Straight = 2.5×, Zigzag = 3×, Overlock = 3.5×, Triple = 4.5× seam length.
Tip: Always buy one extra spool — running out mid-project is frustrating!
