How to Use This Calculator

Cast on a swatch of at least 30 stitches and knit at least 28 rows in your chosen stitch pattern.
Block your swatch the same way you will block the finished project (wash, pin, dry).
Measure the width and height of the center of your swatch, avoiding edge stitches.
Enter the number of stitches and rows in your measured area, along with the dimensions.
Optionally enter your desired project dimensions to get cast-on and row counts.

Note: Even a small gauge difference can compound over hundreds of stitches. A difference of just 0.5 stitches per inch across a 40-inch sweater back means 20 extra or missing stitches — potentially inches of difference in the finished garment.
